Bassmead Manor Barn Wedding Photographer
Early 2022 I got to be a Bassmead Manor Barn wedding photographer. St. Valentine’s Day, in fact. It was a really beautiful day; a relaxed, and fun, day of the bride and groom celebrating their love for each other. (and some great food and a party)
If you are looking for a barn wedding then this really is a great venue to choose.
Bassmead Manor Barn
Nestled within the medieval moat of an ancient manor, Bassmead Manor Barns is a charming, elegant family-owned barn venue, exclusively yours on your wedding day. History embraces you as you say your vows in the 300-year-old traditional, beamed barn while contemporary spaces are set to impress, from the sophisticated bar to the contemporary, light-filled Bridge Barn.
With exquisite interior design, landscaped gardens, luxurious accommodation and an exceptional on-site Catering and Events Team, weddings at Bassmead are truly memorable.
Richard and Cordelia Squire, the owners of Bassmead, are the seventh generation of the Squire family to call the farm home, and they now raise their three small children on the estate. Bassmead has been owned by the Squires since 1845, when Richard’s ancestor Sir Peter Squire bought the farm to grow herbs for his apothecary business in London.
Sir Peter was a royal chemist to Queen Victoria, and it is believed that herbs grown at Bassmead Manor Farm were used in the Coronation Oil used at royal coronations! Today Richard continues to work the farmstead, which has expanded from 400 acres to 1660 acres over the last 40 years, while Cordelia is a Chartered Physiotherapist and runs her own business locally.
The Squire family first had the idea to set up Bassmead Manor Barns as a wedding venue 15 years ago, after Richard’s cousin Hannah asked to hold her reception on the farm. Richard set about restoring the old barn that stored agricultural machinery, and it was to become Rickety Barn brides and grooms love today. The wheels were set in motion, and over the next decade Bassmead Manor Barns was transformed into a warm and welcoming wedding venue. When it became clear that couples loved the family feel and stunning location, the Squires renovated the barns fully in 2012. With a team of expert planners and designers, as well as Cordelia’s eye for interior design, Bassmead Manor became the unique wedding venue it is today.

Boudoir
Many brides choose to get ready at Bassmead Manor Barns and, with that in mind, they have created the Bridal Boudoir. The upstairs dressing room is generously proportioned with full-length mirror and dressing tables. Meanwhile, the downstairs sitting room is the perfect place to meet with your registrar and to enjoy a glass of fizz and a moment of calm before your ceremony.
Ceremonies
Walk through characterful stable doors into the 300-year-old Rickety Barn for your civil ceremony. With original solid oak beams, wooden floors and wrought-iron chandeliers, it boasts an aura of serenity and romance, the ambience highlighted by twinkling fairy lights. Lovingly restored for your special day, it also includes modern touches such underfloor heating and a music system.
Receptions
Following reception drinks in the Moat Barn, you can dine in the Bridge Barn. Contemporary and flooded with natural light, this spectacular space features a dramatic timbered ceiling and views across the gardens and moat. A neutral colour scheme gives you the opportunity to impart your own style, its elegant simplicity needing little other than some beautiful flowers to bring the outside in.
Evening Celebration
As day turns to evening, dance the night away in the Bridge Barn, wandering through to the bar in the Moat Barn or out into the garden. Our expert on-site catering team will create your chosen evening menu, perhaps wood-fired pizza or street food. And, of course, we hope you will spend the night. Dove Cottage is just for you, while Appletree Cottage features seven bedrooms for your closest friends and family.
Outdoor Spaces
The secluded private garden at Bassmead Manor is set beside the moat and framed by a white chestnut tree. This idyllic spot will greet your guests as they arrive and may also be the setting for your welcome drinks along with a few garden games. Whatever the weather or season, the garden becomes an integral part of your wedding day, with doors leading from the Moat Barn and Bridge Barn to the heated patio along the beautiful herbaceous borders to the delightful oak Gazebo all spectacularly lit up at night.
Book a Documentary Photographer (Me) for your wedding
There are many reasons to book a documentary photographer, like myself, to photograph your wedding. A documentary wedding photographer excels at capturing the genuine moments and emotions that unfold throughout your wedding day. Rather than staging poses or orchestrating scenes, I will focus on candid shots that reflect the true essence of your celebration. From the nervous anticipation before the ceremony to the heartfelt exchanges of vows and the crazy dancing at the reception
I want to document the real, unscripted moments that make your wedding unique. I will weave together a visual narrative that tells the story of your day in a heartfelt and authentic way.
Rather than constantly directing or interrupting the flow of events, I will work discreetly in the background, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the day you have planned. This approach creates a comfortable environment, enabling natural interactions and genuine emotions to shine through. You and your loved ones can enjoy the day without feeling self-conscious or pressured, resulting in photographs that capture the true atmosphere and connections shared on your wedding day.
I this all sounds like a great idea, then simply get in touch and let me know your plans
