Lincolnshire holds a special place in my heart—it’s practically on my doorstep, and I’ve had the privilege of photographing weddings at some of its most stunning venues. I was born in Lincolnshire and spent most of my formative years there. From the elegant townhouses of Stamford to beautiful countryside barns, there’s something wonderfully diverse about wedding venues here.

What I love most about working in Lincolnshire is how relaxed couples tend to be. Maybe it’s the laid-back charm of the county itself, but weddings here always seem to have this lovely, unhurried feel that’s perfect for documentary photography. No one’s rushing, no one’s stressing—just genuine moments unfolding naturally throughout the day.

As a documentary wedding photographer, I work exclusively in an unposed style. That means no awkward group shots eating into your day, no forced smiles, and definitely no interrupting your celebration to stage photos. I’m there to capture the real story—the laughter during speeches, the quiet moments between you and your partner, and all the chaos and joy of the dance floor.

My Approach to Lincolnshire Wedding Photography

I’ve been photographing weddings in Lincolnshire for years now, and I know these venues inside out; the best light at The George, where the quietest spots are at William Cecil, how the seasons change the feel of each location. That familiarity means I can anticipate moments before they happen and work around a venue’s quirks without missing a beat.

But knowing a venue well doesn’t mean much if the approach is wrong. I work in a purely documentary style, which means I’m not there to orchestrate your day or pull you away from your guests for endless photo sessions. I’m there to capture what actually happens—the unscripted laughter, the tears during the vows, the moment your dad sees you for the first time – in a genuine way, not an orchestrated film set where everyone feels uncomfortable.

You’ll barely notice me. I move quietly, I don’t interrupt, and I certainly don’t ask people to “act natural” (because that’s the least natural thing you can ask someone to do). Instead, I blend into your day, build trust with your guests through friendly chat, and when something beautiful unfolds, I’m ready.

The result? Photos that feel like your day, not like a photoshoot. When you look back through your gallery, I don’t want you to think “remember when Barnaby told us to stand there and look wistfully into the distance”, I want you to think “remember when that happened!”

Planning your Lincolnshire Wedding

One of the best things about Lincolnshire venues is how well they work together as a region. It’s not unusual for couples to have their ceremony at one location and reception at another—Stamford’s particularly good for this, with several beautiful venues within walking distance of each other. Most of the venues I photograph here have strong relationships with local suppliers, which makes planning smoother than you might expect. They’ll often recommend caterers, florists, and celebrants they’ve worked with dozens of times, which takes a lot of guesswork out of the process.

From a photography perspective, Lincolnshire venues tend to have great natural light and plenty of space—both indoors and out. That means whether it’s pouring with rain or gloriously sunny, there are always options for beautiful, natural photos without needing to set up elaborate lighting or drag everyone outside when they’d rather be enjoying themselves.

Accommodation is rarely an issue either. Stamford has excellent hotels and B&Bs within a short walk of the main venues, and many of the countryside locations have on-site accommodation or reliable options nearby. Your guests won’t be scrambling for somewhere to stay or worrying about taxis at the end of the night.
